How to find the Perfect Plants for your Conservatory

A conservatory allows you to enjoy beautifully ambient temperatures all year round – it’s a great way to bring the outdoors in and enjoy a semi-al fresco environment whatever the season. One way in which to give a greater sense of being outside is to fill your conservatory with beautiful plants – but not every species will survive in such a space. Here at Sentinel Solid Roof, we’ve pulled together a list of perfect conservatory plants, making it easy for you to create a stunning setting in your own conservatory.

Citrus Trees

Lime, lemon and orange trees offer a wealth of benefits to conservatories: their blossom looks beautiful, their fruits are delicious and they smell fantastic. Bear in mind that very young trees can be vulnerable to the cold, but they’ll be perfectly hardy – with some ventilation – when they’re a few years old.

Cacti and Succulents

Plants that thrive in the desert, such as cacti and succulents, are the perfect choice for conservatories as they can withstand extremes in temperature. The other beauty of these plants is that they are very easy to maintain, with very little watering needed. Damp air can cause them problems, though, so ensure that your conservatory is well ventilated. You’ll find such plants in a huge range of colours, shapes and sizes, so there’s something for every space.

Climbing Plants

Jasmine, banana passion flowers, cape leadwort, bluebell creepers – there are many climbing plants that can add colour, scent and a wealth of greenery to your conservatory. Be sure to pick desert strains that will fare well on even the hottest of days, or jungle varieties that will flourish as long as they’re kept well watered.

Patio Pot Plants

In the colder months, why not bring the potted plants from your patio or decking into your conservatory to protect them from the elements? By avoiding the cold, frosts, biting wind and rain, they’ll be given a better chance of survival.
